UNIX Technical Specialist

The role is to provide support for Unix infrastructure at an Atos site (Winnersh, LTQ, Andover, Livingston or BBP). The key infrastructure is based on RedHat, Solaris, AIX, with legacy systems on HP-UX Tru64 & VMS.
Working within a small dedicated team (7x Unix) & in conjunction with a larger account based team. Due to the nature of the work, this role would suit a multi skilled individual.
Standard Base Support Definition: 12 * 5 Incident & Problem Management (On-site at ATOS office during the office hours of 08:00 to 18:00 (standard client support hours), & on-call out of hours for agreed servers) – Resolution of user incident & problems requiring expert UNIX attention.
• Completion of client change control tasks.
• Security strategy & maintenance - Installation of any required 3rd Party products & O/S hardening.
• O/S maintenance - Maintain system to supported releases of operating system - Installation of O/S fixes in a cumulative manner, or piecemeal as a result of a particular problem & implementation of regular housekeeping routines.
• Hardware Maintenance of UNIX systems – liaising with appropriate 3rd Parties to ensure all hardware issues are successfully resolved within the agreed SLAs.
• Proactive Patch Management for all supported systems including developing & applying a regular patching policy.
• Capacity Management, Performance Analysis & System Tuning - Performance data collection & reporting with recommendation of hardware or software alterations to improve systems performance - On-going exercise.
• Maintenance of best practice - Systems configuration complying with best practice dictated by the providers, & on-going maintenance of the systems documentation.
• Security Administration - Creating, Deleting & Altering user profiles on supported servers, ensuring that the security strategy in place is adhered to, as well as flagging all security breaches.
• Defining thresholds/message filtering/rules for automation monitoring that will enable proactive management of the UNIX systems.
• O/S configuration for additional servers – Server installation & configuration to the client's specific requirement.
• Installation, customisation, configuration & software maintenance of Business applications.
Provide any UNIX Server reports as requested by the customer. This will typical include:
-Disk space allocated to various Servers
-Availability of the Servers including outages
Job Requirements
Essential
This is a restricted account & as such the security clearance required is SC (required), with HO clearance (preference). The successful candidate will also have to apply for BPSS & potentially HO once within role.
Technical requirements:-
RHEL 5 & 6
AND either:-
Solaris 8, 9, 10 & 11
OR
AIX 6 & 7
On-call support & a willingness to provide some out of hours work (scheduled changes & patching work)
Desirable
Either Solaris 8, 9, 10 & 11 OR AIX 6 & 7
Knowledge of HP-UX
Knowledge of AIX
Any knowledge of VMS
Knowledge of at least 1 other Unix OS
Knowledge of HP-UX ServiceGuard
Knowledge of HP-UX VSE
Knowledge of RedHat Satellite server
Knowledge of ASM within an Unix environment
Knowledge of Cluster (HA CMP, RedHat, Sun Cluster, VCS etc)
