Description
As the executive communications lead for the Joint-MDs HP-APJ, the successful candidate will bring a wide-ranging and deep knowledge of the business tied to exceptional communication skills and an ability to influence at all levels. The position demands someone who is flexible and capable in dealing with fast-changing situations as well as having the personality and skills to work with diverse virtual teams across different markets and cultures.
The role will be centered on the Joint-MDs HP-APJ and will drive content development, preparation and execution support for their internal and external communications platforms. An essential component of the role is to push a “One-HP” voice both internally and externally for the Joint-MDs HP-APJ, in conjunction with the other SVPs in-region. The successful candidate will therefore take responsibility for building a coherent pan-HP/APJ messaging framework whereby regional content, APJ priorities and BG specific focus areas and messaging can be identified, tracked and shared through the platforms at his/her disposal.
There is a strong business need for a focused, plan-based approach to systematic communications. This covers areas such as: calendaring, content and messaging, change communications, strong measurement and tracking systems and the day-to-day alignment of communications activities for the leadership across a range of stakeholders beyond the Joint-MDs HP-APJ themselves.
Responsibilities
- Create, drive and evaluate pan-HP communications messaging, planning and platforms in support of the Joint-MDs HP-APJ.
- Content creation for the Joint-MDs HP-APJ, including but not limited to: leadership communications (including priorities, urgent action messages, quarterly communications, all-manager & all-employee calls / webcasts) and developing speeches, key messages, talking points for internal & external use.
- Leverage milestones and opportunities for Joint-MDs HP-APJ to promote awareness, engagement and support on pan-HP APJ priorities and best practices.
- Establish excellent working relationships with the APJ regional leadership team members -including the MDs’ chiefs-of-staff, the key BG leaders, APJ HR VP and other operational leaders - to contribute to the overall One-HP storyline and content.
- Work with the APJ Communications team and the Employee Communications lead in APJ to co-ordinate internal and external communications programs, including issues management, involving the Joint-MDs HP-APJ.
- Strong linkage and interworking with other support people to ensure alignment and coordination of messaging across BG and executive communications activities.
Tasks
- Put in place a holistic APJ exec comms strategy & plan for Joint-MDs HP-APJ; key objectives include: mapping of stakeholders to align objectives, messages, content and channel for communications
- Leverage tools, channels and platforms to ensure the best communication channel and engagement mix for leadership messages; responsible for internal blog, APJ intranet and explore new social media approaches to communications
- Proactive stakeholder management, alignment and discussion on all key aspects of communications planning, content
- Continuous coaching for Joint-MDs HP-APJ to develop theircommunications styles; knows what good communications looks like, conducts executive assessment, and puts forth coaching and resources to hone/train executives for multiple stakeholder audiences
- Quarterly communications activities and outreach planned in advance in conjunction with relevant communications teams, including content creation
Maintain updated set of talking points and background info for Joint-MDs HP-APJ - Assist in ensuring local employee activities (pan-HP) for Joint Region MDs are planned and executed based on travel schedule
Qualifications
- More than 10 years of wide-ranging communications experience
- Exceptional written and verbal communications skills; demonstrated experience framing content for diverse audiences, comfortable creating new materials, defining new approaches to comms
- Deep communications expertise & professional consultative stakeholder interface and management
- Great listener - takes feedback, and adapts, delivers solutions that meet the expectations discussed
- Collaborative spirit and excellent influencing, consensus-building and conflict-resolution skills
- Highly visible, proactive and energetic advisor to the business leadership teams
- Hands-on person who is comfortable working in a fast-changing high-pressure environment
- Operates with a sense of urgency, can multi task and deliver on-time, effective high-quality work
- High degree of operational rigor, planning, and managing execution of timeframes and delivery of high quality results
- Experience and a high degree of comfort in financial, change and business communications
- Strategic business understanding and capability with proven track record in internal communications in a region or business unit
- Comfortable working with and writing for senior leaders; strong change communications project management skills
- Strong business-to-business communications experience in technology sector
