Grid Analyst

A specialised vacancy has arisen for a commercially focused and analytically experienced Grid Analyst in a diverse team at ScottishPower's renewable generation business. The key responsibility will be to support ScottishPower Renewables’ (SPR) wind farm portfolio of operating wind farms as well as a number of future developments across onshore, offshore and marine technologies and will entail managing and overseeing the arrangements for grid connection of projects in development, construction and operation. This will be with support from the Grid and Regulation Manager to whom the post holder will report and working with Development, Construction and Operations teams, Technical Services and Technical Direction. Furthermore the post holder will develop their knowledge and understanding of the regulatory framework in resepct of grid, particularly the Connection Use of System Code and an appreciation of GB Grid and European Network Codes. In addition there will be frequent stakeholder engagement, both internally and externally, including tranmsission and distribution companines and Government bodies with occassional travel across the UK and Spain.
What does the Job Involve?
· Establish and thereafter coordinate a central database of SPR’s grid connection agreements and other related documentation in respect of SPR’s fleet of onshore wind, offshore wind and marine projects
· Support development of relevant policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective management of risk, performance of obligations and identification of commercial opportunities
· Coordinate submission of commercial and regulatory information to grid companies on an ongoing basis across the portfolio to ensure obligations and responsibilities are met including submission of new connection and modification applications to meet project needs
· Coordinating SPR’s due diligence review and authorisation process for grid connection agreements
· Act as SPR contact for grid companies on grid commercial and regulatory matters (i.e. excluding technical, operational and settlement specific issues) across the business and coordinate responses to grid companies to ensure consistency of approach with these key stakeholders
· Provide timely and accurate support and analysis in respect of consultation responses, information requests and reporting requirements pertaining to grid connections and arrangements for sites in the balancing mechanism
· Coordinating and monitoring of internal arrangements and procedures in respect of balancing mechanism and constraints to support compliance with Transmission Constraint Licence Condition
· Coordination and administration of weekly/monthly reporting for the Renewables Policy function, ensuring reporting timelines are adhered to
· Monitoring of grid financial security commitments relating to development, construction and operations phases, which will change as arrangements and portfolio develop
· Maintaining a database of all grid connection agreements and grid financial security requirements for SPR sites
· Coordinate submission of project quarterly reports to National Grid, liaising with Project Managers/Technical Team as required
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
· Degree in power engineering (electrical or mechanical) is preferred but not essential if the candidate can demonstrate knowledge and experience of the grid connection process; other disciplines will be considered
· Experience in grid connection process and arrangements
· Experience in supporting development and operational phases of power generation projects
· Experience of Renewables / Energy / Utility industry
· Commercial acumen with developed negotiation skills
· Good interpersonal/team working skills, with the ability to create good working relationships internally and externally.
· Demonstrable analytical skills including advance modelling, the ability to interrogate data and translate contracts and policy information into data, costs and financial risks
· An understanding of regulatory and Government body regulations
· Knowledge of GB and European Electricity Industry Regulatory codes
· Knowledge and experience of grid connection process gained through 3-4years experience in an electrical utility/generation developer
Minimum Criteria
· Technical, engineering or business related degree qualification or equivalent
· IT literate with the ability to operate MS office systems
· Excellent communication skills including report writing, presentation and the ability to communicate confidently with internal and external stakeholders
· Highly numerate with methodical and analytical skills
· The ability to manage workload and meet demanding timescales on a number of projects simultaneously
