The deals/transactions market has grown so much since the start of 2014, that a number of Big 4 and Top 20 firms are wanting to expand their Advisory teams to accommodate the new work being won. The particular areas of growth are within all areas of corporate advisory - corporate finance, transactions, valuations and modelling. The economy is now experiencing the highest economic growth since the credit crisis of 2008, therefore businesses are growing and expanding with the market. For example, a clear illustration of the extent of the growth of the M&A market is the AstraZeneca-Pfizer potential acquisition being worked at the moment.
Advisory teams within firms are looking to take on both inexperienced and experienced advisory specialists. The firms corporate advisory teams are generally split between the four areas: corporate finance/lead advisory, transactions, valuations and business modelling. All of the teams work in tandem with each other and so despite their being a slight divide between them, members of each team will work on the same projects the majority of the time due to their size.
A career in deals is an attractive prospect for a number of reasons, it is uncertain, challenging, rewarding and exciting. It is much less process driven, and more unique as each project is different from another. Becoming an advisor to large organisations wanting to make what is potentially a sustainability-determined decision can be extremely exhilerating.
