Barnfield Academy Trust is about to become a stand-alone multi-academy trust comprising five academies. As a key executive member, the post holder will have a unique opportunity to define the future of the Trust as well as shape the existing operations whilst continuing to deliver excellence in service across all of the Academies.
Having successfully completed a period of major change, the Trust is at a critical point in its development and now demands the right people in place to take the organisation through the next stage in its development.
Overview of the job
Support the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Board of Governors in the execution of their duties contributing to the strategic planning process and supporting and developing the systems of Governance.
Ensure that all strategic planning decisions are informed by relevant financial perspectives and that an effective internal control environment exists.
Develop and implement strategic approaches to the management of the organisations finances to ensure solvency and identify how budgets can be utilised and managed most productively and effectively.
Lead the teams covering business support functions: Purchasing, Facilities, H&S, IT.
Job duties and responsibilities will include;
- Provide leadership, support and guidance to other senior post holders, and members of the organisation on all matters relating to the planning and monitoring of the organisation's financial strategies.
- Lead on the development of the Trust's business support structure, developing and managing the business support functions.
- Ensure timely preparation of all budgets and three year financial forecasts, together with those of the organisation's subsidiary companies.
- Develop the organisation's internal financial systems and controls to ensure appropriate recording of all transactions and effective and efficient allocation of resources and appropriate use of public funds.
- Lead the implementation of risk management policy and plans as well as oversight of the organisation's internal and external audit arrangements. Determine the annual audit plans and monitor follow up actions.
- Work with senior colleagues and members of the organisation to provide financial advice, guidance and evaluation on potential mergers/acquisitions.
- Attend relevant Boards, Financial and Audit Committees.
- Undertake regular contract review meetings with external funding agencies and bodies such as the Education Funding Agency etc.
- Ensure robust systems of financial control and reporting to ensure all reporting meets all compliance requirements of the various statutory bodies as well as demonstrating effective working capital management.
The Person
As the finance director and a key member of the executive leadership team, you will interface with governors, directors and Academy principals and managers. You will play a pivotal role in the delivery of operational services for the Trust.
You will help shape the development and contribute to the strategic decision making of the Trust. You will hold a recognised accounting qualification, have a genuine passion for excellence and have a demonstrable track record of financial leadership.
