Senior Editorial Officer £150-200 Ltd per day in Central London




To plan and lead the day-to-day delivery of sectorial publications, reports, bulletins, case studies and other communication outputs, ensure ease of understanding and consistency of messaging throughout, and promote and develop the use of plain English in all reporting.




* Responsible for delivering sectorial publications and reports (either acute/community and primary care, or adult social care and mental health) including writing, editing, design, production and dissemination online and offline.

* Build expertise and editorial responsibility for one of the four sectors, and lead the coordination of editorial output for that sector.

* Ensure a very high standard of published material, advise colleagues on quality issues, make appropriate decisions about the quality of final content, and challenge poor quality writing wherever it occurs.

* Working with the Provider Engagement team, proactively research, develop and deliver monthly bulletin new stories and ensure they have maximum impact.

* Proactively research, develop and deliver case study material that demonstrates to all audiences that we are achieving its purpose and carrying out its role effectively.

* Support the Public Engagement team with high quality editorial initiatives in the relevant sectors to raise public awareness and demonstrate to the public that we are achieving its purpose and carrying out its role effectively.

* Build close relationships with the Public and Provider Engagement teams, to ensure key messages and narratives are delivered in line with the ultimate needs of their audiences.

* Promote the use of plain English in inspection reporting, and support the relevant inspection directorates in achieving this through training programmes and editorial toolkits.

* Deputise for the Editorial Manager as necessary.

* Build relationships with key internal stakeholders to ensure consistent development and coordination of messages.

* Support engagement programmes through effective and targeted dissemination of messages.

* Develop, alongside the rest of the team, an editorial quality assurance process.

* Ensure the correct use of corporate identity and editorial house style by staff and external organisations, providing advice and support as necessary, and monitor the use and abuse of the brand.

* Actively promote diversity and equality of opportunity, treat everyone with dignity and respect and avoid unlawful discrimination.

Must be able to demonstrate

* Good knowledge and experience of writing, editing, design and production of publications, reports, bulletins, case studies and other communications.

* Excellent written communication skills, in particular the ability to write and edit documents to Plain English Campaign standard.

* Good influencing skills, ability to work with and advise senior colleagues on plain English and editorial issues, and experience of making decisions about quality of editorial.

* Excellent relationship building skills, including the ability to form relationships with key stakeholders quickly and work with multiple teams.

* Good organisational and project management skills

* Excellent attention to detail.

* Sound working knowledge of the wider health and social care policy and operational arena

* Good analytical skills, including the ability to express complex information and ideas in straightforward ways.
