Principal Software Engineer, Developer Experience - HP Helion

We are in search of a passionate Senior Software Engineer to join our growing HP Helion Developer Experience team. If you enjoy working on developing open source tools and responsive apps that will be used by your peers, as well as working within a CICD (continuous integration, continuous deployment) environment, then the Helion team is a place you should seriously consider making your next career move.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES



Working closely with the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for:


  • Working on development projects pertaining to service on top of a stack:




  • Understanding the design and implementation of Platform as a Service App Hosts. Examples include Openshift, CloudFoundry, Heroku, Elastic Beanstalk.





  • Understanding the behavior of cloud services, specifically API-driven services built in Python and with node.js.





  • Maintaining deep knowledge for the API behavior and interaction between the various HP Cloud platform components.




  • Working closely with other members of the team to deliver and operate a managed service



  • Working closely with other members of the team to deliver rapidly iterative product releases (CICD).



  • Engaging the developer community to encourage service adoption and optimize experience.



  • Collaboration with geographically dispersed colleagues.




Qualifications
You will have many of the following skills and attributes:




  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience



  • Minimum 9 years’ software engineering experience:




  • Extensive experience with Python or Java and node.js (n-tier architecture a plus).





  • Distributed systems / SOA - must be familiar with large distributed systems that have complex API interactions.





  • Experience with language bindings, SDK’s / CLI’s, developer platform or portal, tools and IDE integration, and third-party add-in environments.




  • Experience of working with a distributed team is a plus - you will be expected to engage with team members across many time zones and cultures.



  • Experience of working in a Linux-based environment is a must (past experience with Ubuntu/Debian is a plus)



  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills



  • Experience in overall architecture of software systems for products and solutions.



  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.



  • Ability to effectively communicate product architectures and design proposals




Brownie points if you have:


  • Working knowledge of OpenStack and/or Cloud Foundry

  • Working knowledge of, or desire to learn, GoLang

  • Working knowledge of developer operations and managed services

  • Linux System Administration experience

  • Cloud platform design experience
