Our client is a major government organisation that operates across Victoria's transport network providing safety procedures and management. Due to a long term leave of absence they require a Risk Engineer on a 6 month fixed term contract.
The position reports to the Manager Strategy & Planning and is responsible for providing risk and risk management expertise and advice to the Rail and Bus divisions. The position provides leadership and guidance in a complex area of strategic importance. The position is required to work with high level stakeholders, the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator and provide policy advice to government and key industry stakeholders. The role supports the strategic planning function and the delivery of compliance and accreditation tasks for the Rail and Bus Safety Divisions.
The purpose of the role is to;
Provide high level technical and industry specific expert advice and guidance to the Director Rail Safety, Director Bus Safety and the Director, Transport Safety on overarching their public transport risk and safety management matters. Provide advice to their leadership team, other govt divisions, and public transport operators, contractors and the industry on risk issues.
Accountabilities;
Conduct qualitative and quantitative risk analyses for identified public transport issues to support management decisions regarding strategic and local safety initiatives, including the development of risk models.
The ideal candidate must meet the following;
Postgraduate qualifications in a field of risk engineering or safety science together with relevant industry experience. A higher degree in risk engineering preferred. 3 years experience as a risk engineer, and one in rail
Experience and proven ability in management of high level risk including: analysis, modelling, and mitigation from rail or other hazardous industry.
Sound knowledge of safety management systems is required
Knowledge and understanding of rail operations, underpinning safe working systems and or train protection systems would be an advantage.
Sound knowledge of descriptive statistics as applied to risk management and rail and bus occurrence reporting and analysis.
