Lead Auditor

The lead auditor will deliver audit reviews for all areas of the Scottish Power business by conducting risk assessment to identify high risk and critical areas, providing support to improve and strengthen business control and processes, identifying controls and producing robust test plans. They will be required to liaise with key stakeholders including reporting to senior management and supporting other business leaders.



What does the Job Involve?




  • Assist with the delivery for the UK based Internal Audit plan, performing independent operational and compliance assurance reviews that add value to the business.

  • Understand the wide range of risks that key processes are exposed to and the ability to effectively assess their significance.

  • Take the lead in co-ordinating the delivery of individual audit assignments or support the senior auditor in delivering the audit assignment through activities including:

  • understanding detailed process, identify key risks and controls,

  • prepare/update test plan to evaluate such controls,

  • obtain reliable evidence to support conclusions,

  • prepare concise and accurate report and agree and clear issues with management.






Skills, Knowledge and Experience




  • Able to quickly understand processes, identify key controls and assess risk and impact of control weaknesses

  • Able to present concise and clear findings to management and directors, providing convincing argument to influence future actions/process

  • Commercial awareness

  • Robust approach with high degree of integrity

  • Influence and challenge of business leaders

  • Good understanding of operational / financial controls and related issues

  • Sound knowledge of audit technique

  • Sound knowledge of the industry and organisation

  • Ability to deal with large volumes of data and to sift out pertinent facts

  • Ability to advise on Control related issues

  • Work delivered on time to required standards

  • Ability to remain technically up to date






Minimum Criteria




  • Degree qualified, previous internal/ external audit/ risk management experience

  • Driving Licence



  • WiIllingness to travel to other SP sites (and on occasion Spain as required)



  • Previous experience utililising analytical, judgment, decision making, communication and report writing skills
