Senior Auditor

The senior auditor will deliver complex audit reviews for all areas of the Scottish Power business by conducting risk assessment to identify high risk and critical areas, providing support to improve and strengthen business control and processes, identifying controls and producing robust test plans. They will be required to liaise with key stakeholders including reporting to senior management and supporting other business leaders.



What does the Job Involve?




  • Understanding the wide range of risks that key processes are exposed to and the ability to effectively assess their significance.

  • Preparation of ongoing risk assessment covering all aspects of ScottishPower’s operations.

  • Develop and maintain audit strategy and methodology.

  • Develop and deliver the completion of the UK Internal Audit plan.

  • Effectively implement and supervise the audit methodology and coach less experienced auditors through the following: (1)Supervising with development of focused risk assessments and audit work programs for each engagement, and with the interpretation of testing results and communication of issues to the businesses. (2) Assisting the auditor with clearing reports with the business.

  • Completing audits which directly impact operations throughout the UK in accordance with the Iberdrola group audit methodology including: (1) Providing valuable consultation to the business process owners and management regarding improving their controls, processes and systems; (2) Ensuring the audit report provides an independent, balanced control assessment which will stand up to a robust challenge from executives and senior managers.

  • Maintaining an effective network of relationships throughout the organisation who can provide knowledge and expertise that help set the context for an issue under review.

  • Providing specific controls advice to senior leaders of the business on key or difficult control issues facing them.

  • Articulating issues and complex subject matter to various audiences; including (but not limited to) process owners, business unit professionals and senior managers, External Auditors, Disclosure Committee, and other related sub-committees.

  • Provide training to internal audit team to enhance individual skills and promote engineering / technological knowledge amongst team.

  • Liaise with Iberdrola colleagues to determine and implement a consistent approach over Group wide reviews and issues.

  • Able to quickly understand processes, identify key controls and assess risk and impact of control weaknesses



  • Able to present concise and clear findings to management and directors, providing convincing argument to influence future actions/process



  • Commercial awareness.

  • Robust approach with high degree of integrity.

  • Influence and challenge of business leaders.

  • Sound knowledge of risk management techniques.

  • Sound knowledge of audit techniques.

  • Expert knowledge of the industry and organisation.

  • Expert knowledge of controls and control effectiveness assessments.

  • Ability to deal with large volumes of data and to sift out pertinent facts.

  • Apply appropriate judgement and evaluation to solve non-recurring problems.

  • Management skills to motivate and develop a diverse pool of 10 highly skilled professionals.

  • Ability to utilise network across the business to gain an understanding of business issues and gain perspectives.

  • Ability to remain technically up to date.

  • Apply appropriate Project Management skills to deliver element of the Audit Plan.





  • Minimum Criteria




    • Internal/external audit or risk management experience

    • Bachelor's Degree

    • Must have a willingness to travel and a full UK driving licence, as travel to other Scottish Power sites/offices and occasionally Spain may be required
