There is currently an opening within ScottishPower for an Electrical Fitter. The post holder will be r esponsible for Operations, Maintenance and Testing of all Hydro Plant and Apparatus.
What does the Job Involve?
- Work with COSHH substances and oil spill kits.
- Train and instruct other staff members as required.
- Installation inspection, commission and fault finding on plant & apparatus:
- Undertake routine maintenance of plant/apparatus for annual, 4 and 12 yearly overhauls.
- Ensure that maintenance of critical systems and statutory inspections are carried out within designated time periods.
- Assist with plant modification, installation of new and decommissioning of redundant plant and apparatus.
- Undertake fault finding and diagnosis of faulty plant/apparatus and assist with repairs.
- Assist engineering teams in the processes for plant improvement and project delivery process.
- Undertake the roles of Competent Person, Nominated Supervisor and Authorised Person (up to 415V) under the ScottishPower Safety rules
- Assist contractors with plant maintenance, modifications, testing, etc
- Undertake focus and housekeeping audits to maintain and improve safety, environmental & quality standards
- Respond to call outs as required for operational, maintenance or other necessary activities
- Use Maximo to raise work order cards and PRAD to create risk assessments
- Follow all relevant station operations, maintenance, health and safety and emergency procedures.
- Work with COSHH substances and oil spill kits.
- Train and instruct other staff members as required.
- Operations and inspections on hydro plant and equipment:
- Undertake all Maintenance Assistant accountabilities when required (inspection of oil sumps, pressure vessels, batteries, lighting, electricity meters, weather stations, greasing plant, topping up oil systems, operate screen cleaners, water strainers, oil filters, flood gates, barrage gates and other activities as required).
- Operate overhead cranes and undertake rigging & slinging.
- Assist with land management and buildings maintenance activities in conjunction with the Civils teams.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience- Time served electrician having followed an approved apprentice training programme
- An ONC/HNC or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of Health, Safety & Environmental Legislation.
- Ideally some knowledge and understanding Electrical Generating Plant.
- Computer skills in Microsoft packages
- Good communication and team working skills.
- Experience on the maintenance and operation of LV, HV and electrical rotating machines
- Knowledge of Control and Instrumentation and PLC controlled systems
- Knowledge of Current IEE Regulations BS7671
- Ability to understand electrical, instrument & mechanical drawings, plant O&M manuals
Minimum Criteria- Time served electrical craftperson having completed a recognised training programme with an ONC/HNC or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
- Valid UK driving license.
- Ability to work alone, at heights, in confined spaces and adjacent to or over water.
- Provide a 40 minute call out response to any Galloway location
Benefits Information- Grade: TM3
- Min Salary £25,551 - Salary DOE
