Solution Architect

This position is for a Solution Architect (SA) within the Mobility and eTransactional Services (MTS) service line within the UK&I Regional Business Unit (RBU). The SA role would report into the Technical Director TD for the MTS service line.
The MTS area is heavily transport focused and has a classic bimodal nature of legacy technology and more current product and solution offerings. The area is beginning the path of evolution (legacy migration) and the definition of true service oriented architecture (SOA) to create a leveraged service model.
Within the MTS service line there are a number of products and solutions that are consumed by end clients, each of these products and solutions is aligned to an SA who acts as the technical design authority for the product/solution or service in question.
UK Wide Travel – flexibility / open to any Atos base location
The SA is embedded within a product or client solution on behalf of the Technical Director for the MTS service line and works alongside the project manager/programme director for the product /solution and is responsible for all aspects of the technology and architecture. They act as the principle point of escalation within a product/solution for technology/architecture matters and need to understand the broader commercials affecting each solution.
The SA is responsible for the technical/architectural requirements (functional/non-functional), design, development, build, testing and the migration path to live and is held accountable for its delivery/acceptance
The SA must ensure that the product/solution meets the requirements and direction of the MTS service line business and technical/architecture strategies that are defined annually.
Duties include:
- Acting as the principle point of escalation within a product/solution for technology/architecture matter
- Provide technical/architectural leadership within the product/solution project/programme
- understanding of the business and commercials of the area that the product/solution
- Engagement with the business, analysts, sales, service manager/director, project management and programme director to understand the business & commercial landscape within which the product/solution will be used
- Influencing the choices within the technical and architectural areas
- Responsible for the technical/architectural requirements (functional/non-functional), design, development, build, testing and the migration path to live and is held accountable for its delivery and acceptance
- Responsible for managing gated checkpoints and assurance reviews
- Responsible for ensuring that all documentation to support the various phases and level definitions is provided and show all auditable reviews
- Responsible (with the product owner) for the definition of the roadmap and planned releases (including the functional, non-functional and service elements)
- Ensure that the product/solution meets the requirements
- Promote re-use of physical artefacts within the application space
- Make recommendations of partners/3rd parties to be used in the creation of the product/solutions to the MTS Technical Director
- Provide assurance for High and Low level technical and architectural documentation, this includes: applications design and definition documents, infrastructure documents (sizing, reference architectures, growth estimates, throughput etc) and live migration documents and acceptance into live service and the clear definition of external and internal interfaces to other products and services

Essential
Skills & Experience
- Understanding of solution building block technologies (Apache Camel, JBoss, JEE, JSF, EJB, mySQL, Hibernate, Linux, Network Protocols)
- Solution architecture in a multi-tier, scalable, corporate environments
- Proven enterprise (multi-tier scalable) solution design and leadership of products/solutions from a technical/architectural perspective
- Proven and demonstrable leadership skills
- Proven ability to create a leadership team with the project manager/programme director
- Decision making either solely or in conjunction with a project manager/programme director
- Basic project management skills
- Ability to create a business case and show value for money/ROI Communication skills: Fluent English both written and oral, Presentation skills to both technical and business audiences
- Self-starting capability
- Time management and prioritisation of task and deliverables
- Stakeholder management
