Commercial PC Product Planner

Houston, Texas Area, US - Computer Hardware

Hewlett-Packard is looking for a star Product Planner to drive commercial notebook, tablet or hybrid product planning. This product category is in the midst of a material industry shift and transformation. The right candidate will be a proven leader who possesses strong skills in strategic thinking and product planning and will take the reins initiating and planning the 3-5 year product roadmap, planning best-in-class products based on customer-driven data, technology trends, and innovative commercial and enterprise solutions. This requires careful and deliberate planning and execution across critical business initiatives, cross-regional collaboration, and new business innovation.

The candidate should also have the ability to collaborate effectively with team members across multiple groups, including product management, regional teams, marketing, engineering R&D, and senior leadership. This individual will play a central role in supporting key initiatives and projects to ensure deliverables are met on time with high quality, working closely with the respective engineering and regional teams to ensure appropriate follow-through on key actions in the interest of delivering great outcomes.


  • Category Expert - overall responsibility for product planning within the notebook category including notebooks, tablets, and hybrids.

  • Plan 3-5 year roadmap for category that encompasses technology trends and customer requirements; identify and resolve roadmap gaps

  • Accountable for planning differentiated, innovative, best-in-class notebooks, tablets, hybrids, built on the foundation of HP Premier Business Experience that support appropriate price band coverage, profitability levels, and business plan

  • Accountable for product from concept, research, and MRD

  • Accountable for documented alignment with regions on concept with exceptions noted

  • Develop and drive new ideas to differentiate the product offering in the market (new hardware features, form factors, customer benefits, ad campaigns, etc.)

  • Drive customer insights by actively participating and contributing to research planning and execution

  • Drive category-specific strategic initiatives

  • Clearly communicate category, portfolio, and Business Unit strategy to customers, senior management, regions, and external teams

  • Understand the trends and long-term strategy for the category; contribute to long-term business planning

  • Identify and communicate issues for the product and/or category with regard to product risks, competitive threats, and business issues

  • Facilitate region relationships and interaction

  • Look for areas to minimize or reduce complexity in the category; look for areas to reduce cost in category

  • Manage first-line product escalations and make data-driven decisions to build or review effective business cases for the category

  • Participate in customer briefings, training, launch events staffing, and press tours

Qualifications
Knowledge/Skills Required:


  • Highly knowledgeable of notebook products and technologies and the business needs of the commercial and enterprise customers

  • 7+ years’ experience in product marketing and/or product planning

  • Demonstrated knowledge of general marketing function either through education or work experience

  • Proven history of consistently high levels of outcome driven performance

  • Demonstrated knowledge of general marketing function either through education or work experience

  • Graceful under pressure and able to drive high impact through influence

  • A known commodity for his/her skills in product marketing/management

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • MBA or masters with a proven background in business related functions is preferred
