- Support Lead Engineer by taking ownership of interface design of a designated purchase package from design to startup and assist lead with missing or late vendor or internal documentation to complete assigned package to meet cost, schedule, scope, and quality requirements for the project.
- Support/mentor Support Engineers by clearly identifying tasks and reviewing work assigned
- Design and develop electrical systems to support the mechanical process for a project.
- Create testing standards for the equipment designed in the field based on O&M manuals and industry standards
- Advise Support Engineers when to perform equipment testing in the field.
- Size transformers based on motor starting/running loads
- Calculate/review/apply short circuit fault current, voltage drop for LV, percent conduit fill calculations, percent tray fills for power and instrumentation, and the NEC table for cable ampacities for LV and MV
- Specify/review/apply the ANSI standard for voltage classes, NEMA MG1 for motor standards, ANSI standards for metal clad equipment, metal enclosed bus, transformer types, Height Voltage Substation Equipment and IEEE color books
- Specify/review/apply the NEMA standards for panel boards and cable tray.
- Specify/review/apply the NEMA and NEC standards for cable and UG duct work and trench wall systems
- Review/correct/report P&ID with lines for the project per the proposed technical annex and lead engineer requirements and report issues as project moves forward with vendor data.
- Create/review/apply AC and DC schematics for the project per the proposed technical annex and lead engineer requirements and report issues as project moves forward with vendor data.
- Create/review/apply relaying and protection one lines and zones of protection for the project per the proposed technical annex and lead engineer requirements and report issues as project moves forward with vendor data.
- Correct/review/apply vendor elementaries for the project per the proposed technical annex and lead engineer requirements and report issues as project moves forward with vendor data.
- Apply intrinsically safe wiring and power requirements
- Design/review/apply transformer type pad mounts vs substation class for the project per the proposed technical annex and lead engineer requirements and report issues as project moves forward with vendor data
- Design/review/apply ANSI standards protection relays functions, electrical control functions, NEC hazardous area classifications, ANSI hazardous area boundaries, LOTO boundaries per OSHA and LOTO standards for support engineers and other project team members.
- Write AC and DC trip check procedures for High Voltage and Medium Voltage Systems
- Create/update generic construction installation, start up and commissioning standards as well as electrical equipment package for packaged mechanical equipment, equipment standards per the US codes and standards.
- Create/Update generic installation drawings (Grounding, Motors, Lighting, Trays, Duct Bank, Trench Wall systems, etc), one line symbol sheets per ANSI standards, AC and DC schematic symbol sheets per ANSI standards, startup and commissioning check lists and reports for turnover to client.
- Review motor data against one lines and transformer sizes and impendences and report any problems to lead engineer.
- Review packaged equipment and electrical equipment against specifications.
- Review/perform SKM/ETAP studies for arc flash, short circuit, protection, and load flow for lead engineers
- Responsible for reviewing and issuing cable/tray schedules, drawing lists, and electrical equipment lists for lead engineers.
- Create/Review 3 phase test settings for support engineers
