Diamond Light Source is the UK's synchrotron. It works like a giant microscope, harnessing the power of electrons to produce bright light that scientists can use to study anything from fossils to jet engines to viruses and vaccines.



The demand for ever more challenging science from our visiting scientists requires the availability of advanced, reliable and flexible software tools to support their work. These tools cover many areas including instrument control, data acquisition, scientific analysis, user administration and supporting business processes. We are seeking Java Developers to contribute to our success who can drive and facilitate the development and delivery of this world-class software. In this case we are focusing on the support and development of the web based User Administration suite of applications (UAS), working with the latest Java technologies to develop high-volume e-Commerce platforms and applications.



You will consult with users and analyse their requirements whilst making recommendations for key enhancements to the system. You will design, develop and test enterprise software to agreed specifications, providing all supporting documentation that includes build and deployment instructions. As a live system you will also be responsible for investigating and resolving incidents, interacting with staff and external users where appropriate.



Your background will include Java development, working on platforms such as Spring and Hibernate. You will have experience of working with relational databases and have an understanding for the full software development lifecycle. Experience of UNIX-like and Windows operating systems is essential, and any exposure to programming for mobile platforms would be desirable.
