Systems Software Engineer (Specialist)


DESCRIPTION


HP Technology Services R&D is looking for a System Software Developer interested in joining a new project building the next generation of system and platform monitoring and analysis tools for the modern connected world. You’ll have the opportunity to work on a new project using a range of interesting technologies and systems (e.g. big data, cloud platforms, advanced analytics, Java, Continuous X, scaled agile).


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES


- Actively participate in and contribute to all activities of the scrum team as needed – from planning trough to design, development, test, automation, deployment and support


- Analyses design and implements / codes solution


- Develops and executes automated tests and documentation for assigned portion of application; identifies and debugs issues with code and suggests changes or improvements


- Support the Continuous X (e.g. testing, integration, deployment) approach to software development


REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERTISE


- Strong Java development skills. Experience in other languages a strong plus (e.g. JavaScript, C++)


- Solid understanding of web services


- Strong understanding of underlying systems such as Linux, Hadoop, networking, Apache etc. Some background in systems development or systems administration would be useful.


- Experience with web services or big data (e.g. Hadoop, Vertica) applications desirable


- Demonstrable experience with test-driven development, unit testing, mock testing tools, and continuous build, integration and deployment tools (e.g. Chef, CloudFoundry, Git, Jenkins)


- Familiar with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) or Agile Scrum methodology and software engineering role


- Strong written and verbal communication skills – must be fluent in English


- Comfortable working in a dynamic, collaborative development environment where ideas can be openly proposed, discussed and agreed – ability to work well with others is essential




Qualifications

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE


- Typically five years software development experience


- Bachelor's degree in computing/software discipline or equivalent experience
