Vertica, an HP company located in Cambridge MA, seeks Software Engineers to enhance the functionality and performance of its core Database Execution Engine. Vertica provides a state-of-the-art Big Data Analytics platform that handles terabytes/petabytes of data and delivers tomorrow's performance today. This is a rare opportunity to work on the core technology that powers a commercially successful, massively parallel high performance distributed database.

Responsibilities:

Design, implement and support features in the database execution engine that enable new kinds of analytic operations.

Identify optimization opportunities in query execution / runtime system, design and implement effective solutions that improve overall system performance

Gather requirements for new features by interacting with / observing customers and sales engineers.

Develop and document intellectual property.







Qualifications

Education and/or Training (choose one, we have multiple openings):

•Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field

•Master’s degree, or equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or related academic field.

•PhD, or equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or related academic field.

Knowledge and Experience (required):

•Ability to deliver prodigious amounts of extremely high quality code (“get stuff done”).

•Significant experience in low-level, high performance system design

•Complexity analysis and improvement of algorithms.

•Proficient in C/C++ and multi-threading, data structures.

Knowledge and Experience (bonus):

•SQL

•Database internals

•Distributed system development experience
