Geocoding Engine Software Engineer

As part of the Forward Geocoder team, you’ll help improve the quality of results through better re-engineering of the existing service to improve the user experience. The successful candidate will be experienced with performant web services, advanced data structures, query interpretation, or natural language processing.



Key Qualifications

• Significant experience writing low latency web services


• Strong knowledge of Python


• Basic programming skills in C or C


• Information retrieval and result relevance experience


• Great problem solving and critical thinking skills


• Excellent communication skills to discuss issues with multiple other teams


• Passion for building quality software

Description



A cornerstone component of the Maps experience lies in the capacity to find and locate addresses and places. It is a challenging problem involving a constant evolving flow of data, diverse languages and cultural differences, and changes made by local governments in countries around the world.



We are looking for passionate, pragmatic, and thorough engineers to build the best geocoding experience.



As part of the team you will:

Develop one of the cornerstones of our mapping platform

Engineer solutions (often requiring specialized data structures) to improve performance and support localization

Support new data models and update the data processing pipeline

Develop the tools for the team to use to investigate issues

Build a product that people use every day

Explore the world through localization challenges



Education



BS/MS in computer science or software engineering, or equivalent



Additional Requirements



Any of the following requirements are a plus:

Experience with RAM based Caches (memcached, redis, etc)

Experience with query intention and interpretation

Experience with build automation

Familiarity with basic Natural Language Processing

Having lived abroad, the knowledge of a second language or sensibility to localization problems
