Non-Destructive Testing Engineer

The Materials Science & Failure Analysis Team at Apple is seeking an engineer with a specialization in non-destructive testing (NDT). The engineer will be part of a group focused on NDT and will be required to have an expertise in, or gain a working knowledge of, the following: X-ray Computed Tomography (CT), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and Scanning Acoustic Microscopy (CSAM) investigation.
Key Qualifications
- 5 years experience with an NDT technique (CT, XRD, CSAM, CMM, White Light Scanning, XRF)
- Experience with stress/strain mechanics of materials
- NDT experience with any of the following products: battery cells, consumer electronics, industrial power components, metal castings
- Strong understanding of the physics behind the mechanical, electrical, and optical properties of a wide range of materials.
Description
In this position you will use lab based NDT techniques to perform both failure analysis and materials characterization. You will be required to have expertise in, or gain competence on, CT, CSAM, and XRD in order to become functionally equivalent to the rest of the NDT group. You must be willing to refocus on any of these techniques for extended periods as the work requires. A strong general background in analytical instrumentation is a great asset.
The required shift will be from mid-day to early evening and periods of overnight work will be required throughout the year.

B.S. in Engineering, Geology/Geophysics, Materials Science, Metallurgy, or Physics
