This position will join a dynamic team focused on developing the company’s market leading mobile smart ticketing application on a variety of portable devices. Initially the role will be responsible for team leading the delivery of the handheld terminal solution for Transport for Greater Manchester. Longer term there will be further implementations of the AvantixTM Urban product to other customers, and work on other ticket retailing platforms.

The AvantixTM Urban product is based on the UK Rail AvantixTM Mobile application sold to Atos’ customers in the UK Rail industry. The AvantixTM Urban product is aimed at the light rail/tram operators and transport schemes in major conurbations and uses a combination of a portable device (PDA) running a C++/.NET application on Windows Mobile v6.1 and new generation contactless EMV and ITSO smartcard reader as well as WiFi and GPRS communications. This is an exciting opportunity for someone wanting to be challenged technically in a number of areas including limited battery, memory and processor capacity as well as multiple communication protocols.

The job is based in a newly built office located in Nottingham. The site has ample parking and good transport links, with a rail station on its doorstep. This is a desk based role using desktop/laptop computers. There may be a limited requirement to travel, for example, to attend customer meetings and workshops. This is a full time role working standard office hours with an element of flexibility on start and end times.

Main duties:

This is a Team Leader role with some development aspects that encompasses all elements of both the traditional Waterfall and newer Agile development lifecycles utilising the following technologies on a day to day basis:
=> Windows Mobile v6.1
=> C++
=> .Net

The job will involve the successful candidate in team leadership in all phases of the product development lifecycle, from working with colleagues and, possibly, customers on requirement capture and functional and technical design through to the software development phase and bug fixing. While we have a dedicated test team there may also be some involvement in the testing phases.

Job Requirements

Essential / Minimum criteria:

- Proven team leadership skills in projects which successfully delivered applications into a commercial environment with a medium sized user base (100 – 5,000 units) specifically demonstrating a competent ability with the technologies outlined:
=> Windows Mobile v6.1
=> C++
=> .Net

- Able to understand and clearly pass on complex technical solutions to other stakeholders verbally and in writing. This may also include some contact with end clients, e.g. during requirement capture and through providing updates.

- Time management skills: A demonstrable consistent track record of delivering robust “proven” solutions within a set deadline.

Desirable criteria:

- Experience in the following technologies:
=> Team Foundation Server
=> Test Driven Development
=> Windows Services

- Knowledge of contactless smartcard and Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards would be a benefit for the role but is not essential as training can be provided.
