Materials Lab Technician - Thin Films

In this highly impactful role, you will have the opportunity to ensure thin film materials are appropriately measured, characterized, processed and tracked across a cross-functional engineering team.
You will utilize your organizational skills, organizing sample flows coming into the characterization lab, as well as preparing samples for analysis using measurements tools, etc. You will also accurately track samples in a database and ensure that materials are appropriately processed and archived.
Key Qualifications
- Typically requires 3 years of relevant experience in thin films or in a chemical environment.
- Meticulous organization skills required.
- Experience in laboratory environment and lab safety procedures required.
- Experience with ICP-AES and ICP-MS is preferred.
- Experience with database systems or LIMS is considered a plus.
- Experience with FTIR, SEM, and optical measurement tools is considered a plus.
Description
•Interface with personnel to collect laboratory samples and understand the types of analyses that are to be performed.
•Prepare thin film materials for analysis, and ensure sample pieces are sent to the appropriate engineers.
•Prepare chemical stock solutions, ensuring that chemical ratios are correct; track and organize prepared solutions.
•Digest solid materials into solutions utilizing acid-enabled breakdown, block heater digestion, and microwave digestion to prepare for ICP analysis.
•Perform accurate measurements by following SOPs, documenting all results.
•Maintain the database to ensure tracking of all samples through submission, analysis and archive.
•Ensure that samples are properly marked for tracking.
•General cleanup, including lab glassware, and maintenance of sample archives.
•Follow and maintain required lab safety procedures.
Education
•BS Degree in technical discipline preferably in Organic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics or Materials Science
