Hewlett-Packard is currently recruiting for a Technical Consultant-Big Data to be based in Sydney. This role is within HP's Enterprise Group, Technical Services Consulting and reports to the Storage and Data Consultant. As a Technical Consultant you will join an industry-leading organisation and get engaged in the full lifecycle delivery around Big data specific to platform and foundation level deployments, business use cases and/or information systems solutions for HP customers. You will have the opportunity to work with business requirements, creation of documentation, testing and maintenance of applications, infrastructure, and information systems including database management systems.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Deploy Solutions as part of the HP HAVEn framework

  • Development, provisioning, and tuning of Hadoop or other distributed systems

  • Develop scripts for SQL and NoSQL datastores: querying, tuning, mapping, and operations

  • Contribute to formulating MapReduce ETL processes and working with downstream data warehouses for analytics

  • Work with cross functional teams including onsite and offshore








Qualifications
Required Knowledge and/or Experience:

  • Database knowledge

  • Knowledge of Data Warehousing concept and ETL/ELT processing methodologies

  • Experience with Linux and shell scripting

  • Sound knowledge in large, fault tolerant and highly scalable enterprise data solutions such as Hadoop and Vertica

  • Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions

  • Passion for technology

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or equivalent with a focus on Data Analytics mandatory




Highly Regarded/Desirable:


  • Knowledge of industry based analytics offerings such as Teradata, IBM Netezza, SAP, SAS, Tableau, Talend, Datameer, Synsort, Cloudera, MapR, HortonWorks, Palantir, Microstrategy, Qlikview, etc…

  • Knowledge of Big Data technologies and the Hadoop ecosystem (i.e. Hive, Pig, Flume, Storm, etc.)

  • Understanding of NoSQL data stores such as HBase, Cassandra, MongoDB, etc

  • Sound software programming knowledge of and/or experience with at least one of these: Java, Java Script, C, C++, C#, VB.Net

  • Prior internship experience/work experience

  • Understanding of BI, data analytics and MPP databases
