Apple Maps Data team is looking for talented engineers to generate data insights that help drive business decisions. We are looking for a self-starter and energetic individual who has excellent analytical, written and communication skills. The candidate should have experience analyzing large volume of data, preferably in GIS space. We look for good team players that are able to tackle problems under tight deadline constraints and deliver imaginative solutions.



Key Qualifications

• SQL, Oracle (or MySQL, PostgreSQL)


• Hadoop, Hive and/or Pig


• Git and/or SVN


• GIS background


• Shell scripting


• Perform data analysis and report the results to users and stakeholders


• Deep understanding and hands-on experience with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data, preferably in GIS space


• Ability to work with incomplete and messy data to extract usable information


• Experience with accessing data stored in Oracle, PostgreSQL, or other RDBMS


• Experience with Apache Hadoop, Solr/Lucene, and related technologies


• Experience with accessing data stored Cassandra, HBase, or other NoSQL database is a plus


• Working knowledge of SQL, Hive, Pig, and other query languages


• Ability to work independently and in a team to find innovative solutions to challenging business and technical problems


• Attention to detail, data accuracy, and quality of output


• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills


• Ability to effectively function in a fast-paced environment


• Results oriented and deadline driven

Description



- Analyze large volume of data and report clear and concise results

- Develop re-usable reports to deliver quality insights for local data around the world

- Implement standard and proprietary algorithms for handling and processing the data

- Use Hadoop based environment for distributed data analysis and processing

- Work with engineers, architects, and managers to drive continuous data quality improvements



Education



BS in Computer Science, Mathematics, or EE, or relevant industry experience is required. MS in Data Science, Information Systems Management, Computer Science or related technical field is desired.



Additional Requirements



Nice to have

- Experience with Java, Python, Hadoop, Hive and Pig

- Experience with PostGIS, GeoJSON, Shape files
