Vertica Senior Software Security Engineer

Greater Boston Area, US - Computer Software



Vertica, an HP company, seeks Software Engineers to design and develop the security subsystem of its flagship product, the Vertica Analytic Database.

You have the opportunity to join the team that owns the complete end-to-end security of the Vertica Analytic Database, a database used by many customers from around the world to store valuable and sensitive data. The security team is responsible for gathering requirements, designing and implementing security best practices in our database, as well as extending the core engine with state of the art security and encryption features. In addition to development responsibilities, the security team leads by example, encouraging the whole development team to adopt a coding style and mindfulness that results in secure software.






Responsibilities

•Evaluate the existing database system security issues and provide solutions; propose and implement extensions as necessary.

•Evaluate existing client encryption mechanisms and propose and implement extensions as necessary.

•Design and implement the integration with third-party authentication systems such as LDAP/AD and Kerberos/GSS.

•Design and implement extensions to the database storage engine such as row-level security, and file system encryption

•Provide security expertise and reviews for other software engineers.







Qualifications

Education and/or Training (choose one, we have multiple openings):


•Master’s degree, or equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or related academic field.


•PhD, or equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or related academic field.


•Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field plus several years of progressive experience in a similar position


Knowledge and Experience (required):


•Understanding of system/object security models and how to integrate users and roles.


•Deep understanding of modern security concepts such as PKI, hashing, SSO etc.


•Experience using standard security libraries such as OpenSSL and MIT Kerberos.


•C/C++, high performance, multi-threading


Knowledge and Experience (bonus):


•SQL


•Database internals


•ODBC/JDBC drivers


•Security for distributed systems
