HP Storage, Management and Solutions Development Unit, is responsible for common management across the entire storage portfolio – our innovations influence what the customer sees first!


We are looking for a Lead Technologist for storage management features integrated into HP OneView, HP CloudOS, VMware VSOM and Microsoft System Center converged management software solutions.


The ideal candidate will be proficient in software design, development, and integration. This will be a hands on technologist with a sense of urgency. He/she will have excellent communication, facilitation and negotiation skills and be able to interact with customers and cross-functional development teams. He/she will also be able to accurately estimate levels of development effort, and influence product design strategy. The individual must have high quality standards, be adept at object-oriented and web methodologies, and have strong problem solving skills, with a demonstrated leadership ability.


Primary responsibilities include conceptualizing and piloting new features which enable HP to achieve a storage management technology leadership position. Sample areas of focus include automated provisioning and rebalancing based on QOS analytics, storage


In this role, the candidate will be a key contributor to Converged Solutions and Infrastructure Management vision and will periodically present the vision and our product capabilities to customers, at technology conferences and internal leadership/strategy meetings.


This position will be based in Roseville, CA or Fort Collins, CO and reports to Vice President of Management and Solutions Development Unit.


Responsibilities



  • Leads multiple project teams of other software systems engineers and internal and outsourced development partners responsible for all stages of design and development for complex products and platforms, including solution design, analysis, coding, testing, and integration

  • Develops organization-wide architectures and methodologies for software systems design and development across multiple platforms and organizations within the Global Business Unit.

  • Conceptualizes and helps develop new, leading edge storage management features.

  • Lead role in maintaining and promoting Converged Storage and Infrastructure Management lab’s vision, collaborates with senior product management team members on roadmap.

  • Leverages recognized domain expertise, business acumen, and experience to influence decisions of executive business leadership, outsourced development partners, and industry standards groups.

  • Identifies and evaluates new technologies, innovations, and outsourced development partner relationships for alignment with technology roadmap and business value; creates plans for integration and update into architecture.

  • Drives adoption of new technologies, engineering processes leading to faster development cycles and higher quality.

  • Provides guidance and mentoring to less-experienced staff members to set an example of software systems design and development innovation and excellence.

  • Periodically audits code to ensure architecture, design and software verification best practices are being followed; provides tangible feedback to improve product quality and mitigate failure risk.

  • Helps HP maintain leading OpenStack contributor role.

  • Drive leading edge software verification strategies.

  • Help coach teams on agile software development best practices.

  • Facilitate decision-making, removing obstacles, issue resolution and consensus among the team members.






Qualifications

Education and Experience



  •  Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent

  •  Master’s Degree in CS a plus

  •  Minimum 15+ years’ experience


Knowledge and Skills 


Minimum of 10 years of experience with hands on development of commercial, enterprise level software.

  •  Additionally, a minimum of 5 years experience as a lead architect and software development role.

  •  Previous experience as a development lead for IT infrastructure management software, Enterprise SaaS solution and/or Cloud ITaaS solution.

  •  Executed agile development process with release cycles of 4 weeks or less.

  •  Ability to help attract/recruit top engineering talent.

  •  Demonstrated success in motivating and mentoring software developers.

  •  Excellent communication and presentation skills (internal, Individual Contributor to executive level, customer, conferences, demos)

  •  Highest level of communication, information sharing & transparency

  •  Experience working with large development teams on complex enterprise software applications

  •  In depth understanding of BI, Analytics, Security and Data Governance

  •  Ability to drive multiple, critical initiatives at strategic & tactical levels across the portfolio

  •  Strong analytical, problem solving & leadership skills

  •  Collaborative team player

  •  Willingness to drive and adopt change, new ideas, processes

  •  Comfortable challenging status-quo and driving creativity, innovation and operational excellence
