Senior SCADA/ Software Engineer

Hays Engineering are currently assisting our client who is the specialist within Automation Engineering in recruiting for a Senior Software Engineer to join their Automation/ Software Programming team based within Rail Automation business.



We have a fantastic opportunity for an individual to work in a friendly team environment, responsible for the Supervision of Junior Programmer's.



RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for the delivery of work packages to meet budget, timescale, quality and system performance targets; activities to be performed with minimal supervision.


• Analyze system specifications and translate system requirements to task specifications for junior programmers.


• Design, implementation, configuration and test of applications for SCADA systems; ensuring that all internal and external standards are adhered to.


• Design and implement database tables and methods, ensuring that any tables and methods are consistent with current internal and industry standards.


• Define functional specifications of the system for the appropriate software and hardware.


• Responding expertly and professionally to bugs reports and customer queries.


• Review and repair legacy systems/code.


• Produce test specifications and co-ordinate testing of the work packages.


• Management of version and configuration control.


• Provide cost and resource estimates for project engineering activities.


• Produce regular reports and attend internal and external meetings to discuss both project and technical issues; setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.


• Ensure that all work conducted by themselves and staff working under their supervision is conducted safely and to the required standards.


• Research and recommend software tools to management.


• Provide assistance to testers and support personnel as needed to determine system problems.


• Provide recommendations to management concerning issues of programmer productivity and software development management.


• Working closely with Engineering Manager to evaluate current systems and making decisions on future development.


• Maintain and develop own professional competence.

QUALIFICATION/ ATTRIBUTES:

• Possess extremely advanced technical skills.


• An engineering background with proven software engineering experience within a control systems/SCADA environment.


• Proven experience of requirements management.


• Experience using C++, Java and mobile applications (not in a web based format).


• Proven experience in the use of configuration management and change control tools.


• Excellent experience and knowledge of processes, standards and procedures at all stages of the software development lifecycle.


• Demonstrable knowledge of data structures and database technologies, including SQL.


• Experience of user interface design and best practice.


• A solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts.


• Demonstrable experience in the development of long range planning for new projects and facilities.


• Expert knowledge of computer languages and ability to learn new programming languages quickly.


• Expert knowledge of computer program design methods and techniques.


• Expert knowledge of maintaining and debugging live software systems.


• Expert knowledge of Microsoft operating systems and development tools.


• Ability to determine whether a particular problem is caused by hardware, operating systems software, application programs, or network failures.


• Experience and ability to teach or instruct co-workers.


• Ability to multi-task and stay organized in a dynamic work environment.


• Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject.


• Chartered Engineer or actively working towards gaining this status.
