This leading market utilities provider has a new position for an experienced Chief Operating Officer. This is an excellent time to join this recently created entity as they are about to embark on an exciting period of change and development. As the Chief Operating Officer, you will be accountable for exceeding key performance targets around safety, quality, reliability and profitability.
This Government Owned Corporation requires someone with exposure of working in an executive level role within the power generation business, within a similar role. This will become a key position in the establishment of the culture and direction of the organisation and the successful applicant will have proven experience of managing operations, preferably within a start up business.
The operational responsibilities that fall within the responsibilities of this role include Championing a safety culture ensuring that positive safety behaviours are embedded across the business, working to the Safety & Management Plane, ensuring that environmental KPIs are achieved. Addressing that all commercial outcomes are delivered safely and efficiently. Working closely to the Strategic and functional plans, always concentrating on improving systems efficiencies and process improvements. Regulatory compliance is a key focus within this role, as is stakeholder engagement, both internally and externally. Experience with advising around policy and strategy would be advantageous, as would a high level of technical skills to ensure the business is using the most appropriate systems, thus adding to the efficiencies and environmental objectives of the generation.
You will possess a high level of leaderships skills, coupled with the ability to influence change and processes around implementing systems efficiencies. Proven experience in providing strategic advice is key, thus communication and negotiation skills are required. A background and exposure to risk management would also be extremely beneficial as this program is at development stage. Communication skills are critical due to the amount of stakeholder engagement required, negotiation skills will also be beneficial due to union liaisons. You will be of an analytical disposition with the ability to conceptualise and problem solve to a high level.
Previous experience within the power generation business is essential to this role due to the technical nature of the operations. The short-listed candidates will be strong leaders with the ability to articulate the corporate vision and values to enable this to translate into achievable objectives connected to the strategic and business plan. You will also have a high level of commercial awareness, business acumen and strategic awareness of business drivers along with the ability to achieve a range of objectives in a timely manner.
