Nuclear Safety Case Specialist

Hays Engineering is currently assisting a leading Engineering Consultancy in their ongoing growth plans in the North West England. Due to some major project wins across civil nuclear we are looking for Nuclear Safety Engineers at all levels to join their expanding team.
Reporting to the nuclear safety manager on this exciting project, your major responsibility will be to ensure that the Nuclear Safety Requirements are understood and delivered.
You will also be required to:
- Support development of project safety case strategy
- Understand and provide high quality safety case advice the Design and Engineering teams and other stakeholders on technical issues relating to safety documentation and governance
- Prepare, deliver and implement safety case documentation to support the submittal and approval
- Be the Intelligent Customer for safety related documentation produced by the Supply Chain
- Present project safety case information to relevant review bodies
- Provide learning and improvement on safety case understanding and implementation to project staff
- Optimise safety case compliance by leading communication between relevant Stakeholders
- Maintain up to date detailed knowledge of relevant legislative, regulatory policy, standards and procedures
- Optimise safety case compliance by facilitating communication and exchange between all relevant stakeholders including safety advisers, plant owners, regulators, site process owners, committees, etc.
- Attend HAZOPs to provide a nuclear safety input
Requirements:
- Degree or higher qualification in a relevant science or engineering subject
- Post graduate qualification in a relevant safety related topic
- Member of relevant professional body
- Essential knowledge:
- Health and safety legislation in an industrial or nuclear industry context
- Safety case and methodologies to modern industry standards
- Risk assessment techniques familiar with HAZID, HAZOP, FMEA - Nuclear Licensing
- Desirable knowledge:
- Knowledge of human factors integration into design and safety processes, and assessment techniques is preferred
- Knowledge of safety and environmental management requirements
- Recognised Subject Matter Expert (SME)
- Experience of stakeholder management
- Experience of design authority role and engineering substantiation work
- Experience of asset management techniques
