The SSD – Service Solutions Design – team is a part of Apple Care and is responsible for assuring future Apple products can be repaired in a way that will continue to delight our customers.

The SSD Team is looking for great a highly motivated Engineer with background on fixture and automation design. In this position, you will manage the design and deployment of fixtures used in test and verification of our products. The successful candidate will be based in the Santa Clara Valley. Key Qualifications

• Unigraphics or other industrial standard Mechanical CAD software
• Hands-on troubleshooting
• Excellent verbal/written communication skills
• Flexible and capable of handling multi-task operations
• Pneumatic, Electromechanical fixture design
• Some power supply design experience
• Materials Experience
• Applied understanding of GD&T practices
• Experienced in both component and system design, simulations, validation and reliability testing
• Experienced in mechanical control of dynamic systems
• Experienced in sheet metal design, thermal management and DFMA principles
• Statistical analysis (predictive simulations, MTBF, Cp/Cpk)
• Good understanding of the technologies used on Apple’s products
• Experience with regulatory and compliance requirements (including documentation) for all design solutions for destined countries
• Innovative with a track record of accomplishments

Description

The candidate will help design and develop the necessary tools and fixtures to support the service solutions world wide. You will work closely with many different cross-functional teams responsible for Apple Product design. This position requires significant management of China based Apple vendors while also interfacing with the fixture designers in Cupertino.

Additional responsibilities include:
•Designing test fixtures for retail and service centers
•Selecting and qualifying components
•Leading technical design reviews and fabrication process to meet fixture validation
•Manage local design firms and fabs to deliver test fixtures per our specifications
•Provide on site support for test fixture bring-up / tweaking to ensure
•Provide on site support for qualifying vendors for fixture duplication
•Up to 25% China travel is required

Education

At least 3 to 5 years experience in mechanical design
BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience/skills required
MS or MBA not required but absolutely welcome
Additional spoken languages is a plus - Mandarin in particular as travel will be mostly in China
